Musical Life in Belgium During the Second World War

From the rising political tensions of the 1930s to the purges of the postwar period, Musical Life in Belgium During the Second World War offers the first collective vision of the abundant musical activity that marked a particularly dark and turbulent period in Belgian history. The some eighteen contributions to this trilingual volume were developed from work presented at an international conference held at the Royal Library of Belgium in the autumn of 2013 and are organized around themes including the programming of major symphonic institutions, the evolution of cabarets and jazz music, and the political manipulations of symbolic figures from the classical canon.
